Built atop the foundation of an existing structure, this new hillside home in Mill Valley reimagines the relationship between architecture and landscape. The design steps lightly on the site while opening fully to a layered terrace that anchors the home in its sloped terrain.

At the rear, the house unfolds toward a planted retaining wall—an immersive backdrop of flowers and greenery that defines the outdoor living area. Interior spaces remain modest and calm, framing views outward and allowing the landscape to take the lead.

This restrained rebuild honors the constraints of the original footprint while offering a renewed sense of place—rooted, quiet, and open to the hillside beyond.
