Home in the Trees

Mill Valley, CA

OVERVIEW

This addition to a hillside home introduces a new wing and unifying roof structure, stitching together two previously disconnected volumes into a single, cohesive form. Each wing is oriented to frame distinct views—one toward the surrounding hills of Mill Valley, the other out to the silhouette of Mount Tamalpais.

The new roof resolves the junction between old and new, creating a continuous canopy that ties the spaces together both functionally and spatially. Inside, warm materials and quiet detailing reinforce the home’s connection to its wooded site, evoking the feeling of a treehouse nestled in the hillside.

Carefully expanded and reoriented, the home now opens outward with clarity and purpose—grounded in place, yet attuned to the horizon.
